Self Publishing Books Going Costlier At Amazon KDP
I was rather shocked when I got the email from Amazon KDP last week. It stated that I must add my tax information on my KDP dashboard to keep using KDP services. It clearly said that if I don't do the same 25/10/2013; they would stop sells for my Self Publishing Books. I thought of giving it a go; but to my shock the rate of tax for publishers from outside United States was kept at 30% flat....!!!

I have been working online for a year now; and that is my only mode of earning. So 30% tax on my self publishing books can be almost fatal for me. It might be okay for US publishers who are used to their taxation and all. As they have been paying at that rate they might take it as normal tax routine; but for some one who has been enjoying mush lesser rates for tax on books and all; this is way much than expectation.
And there are so many other means of online earning and no one charges this much tax. For example I have been associated with oDesk as well; and they never charge me tax. Instead I pay tax to our local government in India. Now this KDP policy on self publishing books will have a double dent for me. I will pay taxes in US as well as India. I hope Amazon takes into consideration and if needed they can follow oDesk. It is never justified to pay double the amount of taxes on single income....!!! If this is the only and inevitable option on KDP I might have to stop writing books; as it will be unbearable for me to pay KDP their share from the sale and then have tax on royalty..!
